Why should you buy handmade wooden garden furniture over furniture you could pick up from any garden or DIY center?

Well firstly, don’t be fooled by the cheap price tag, buying cheap garden furniture can actually cost you more money in the long run as after it’s suffered the elements for a few months you will start to notice that your lovely cheap garden bench is starting to rock when you sit on it, or the legs on your chairs are starting to come loose because the joints (if there are any!) are falling apart.

These effects are caused by the wood naturally expanding and shrinking, some woods expand and contract more than others, such as softwoods like Pine, and alot of this cheap garden furniture is either just bolted or screwed together, or it has been made with inadequate dowel joints.

Within a couple of years, depending what sort of climate you live in, your furniture will need to be repaired or replaced totally!

Unfortunately, alot of the cheap furniture you see in stores is massed produced from poor quality wood and is built in such a shoddy way to keep the manufacturing costs down.

Choose hardwood garden furniture that has solid mortice and tenon joints and is well constructed, yes you will pay a little extra, but it will last you for years and years to come even if the wood hasn’t been treated.
